San Antonio Fencers Features in Local News

Following huge success in the January 2013 North American Cup Tournament in Louisville Kentucky. St. Mary’s Hall students Robin Cheong and Farrah Lee-Elabd won gold and bronze respectively in one of the largest tournaments o the national US Fencing tour. With A and B ratings, Robin and Farrah are amongst the highest rated fencers in the country for their weapon and age group.

The Road to London with the Hurley Sisters

London was a sweet reward for Courtney and Kelley Hurley. The local San Antonio fencers took their lifelong work with them to the Olympics this summer and brought home the bronze medal. After tough individual competition the ladies teamed up with Maya Lawrence and Susannah Scanlan to stun the competition and bring home a medal. San Antonio fencing is proud to be the home of these ladies.

Alliance Mega Epee Camp Makes Local Houston News

Olympian Fencing Club sent twelve fencers to the alliance fencing academy camp in Houston this week to train for the Summer Nationals. The local ABC affiliate in Houston did a story on this event and it shows why this great camp is so popular nationwide. Coach Velizar is working with a coaching team to develop young fencers with a stunning list of accomplishments in the sport.

Coach Velizar and Coach Viktor Guests at Fencing Center Groundbreaking

Coach Velizar and Coach Viktor were guests at the international fencing center groundbreaking ceremony today at St. Anthony Catholic School. Here they are next to UIW president Dr. Louis Agnese.

The 18,000-square-foot center, billed as the region’s premier fencing facility, will have 12 fencing strips, several practice strips, training rooms and amenities for a community U.S. Fencing Association club.
